REMOTE TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT
Your aircraft inspection data analysed by experts, without routine travel to your site.
Do you already have photographs from an automated drone inspection and need specialist technical analysis?
Drone Visual Inspection (DVI) supports maintenance organisations (MROs), airlines, operators and Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisations (CAMOs) through a Remote Technical Assessment solution.
Our approach combines high-resolution photographic data with human expertise in aircraft structures to identify, locate and document visible airframe anomalies.
Our aim: to help you use your inspection data and benefit from DVI expertise without routinely requiring a technical team on site.
WHAT DOES REMOTE TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT INVOLVE?
You capture the photographs. DVI handles technical analysis and delivery of the agreed report.
Unlike a turnkey inspection, remote assessment does not routinely require DVI to travel to the aircraft.
Images are acquired beforehand by the client or a service provider with the necessary resources and authorisations, according to the selected arrangements.
Once the data are available, DVI experts review usable photographs to search for visible anomalies within the defined assessment scope.
Identified findings are documented and compiled in a technical report for use by maintenance teams.
This approach separates on-site acquisition from remote technical assessment while keeping the scope of work and responsibilities clearly defined.
WHEN CAN THIS SERVICE BE USED?
01 — GENERAL VISUAL INSPECTION (GVI)
Obtain an analysis of the aircraft's external condition from existing images.
DVI can examine available photographic data to search for and document visible airframe anomalies.
Analysis covers the surfaces actually photographed and finding categories agreed with the client.
02 — PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION (PPI)
Obtain a complementary visual assessment before an aircraft transaction.
As part of a pre-purchase inspection, DVI can analyse several categories of visible anomaly to document the aircraft's external condition.
Findings are compiled in a technical report that can support investigations by the maintenance organisation responsible for the PPI.
03 — SEARCHING FOR SPECIFIC DAMAGE
Focus analysis on an anomaly or damage category defined beforehand.
A targeted assessment can be offered to search for and document specific findings:
-
Visible dents and deformation.
-
Apparent scratches and impacts.
-
Paint and coating deterioration.
-
Visual indications suggestive of corrosion.
-
Other anomalies within the agreed scope.
This approach addresses situations where a general assessment of the entire airframe is unnecessary.
04 — LIGHTNING STRIKE INSPECTION
Support investigations following a lightning strike.
Using the acquired photographs, DVI can search for and document visible indications that may be associated with a lightning strike.
The assessment can help locate findings and direct maintenance teams towards areas requiring further checks.
05 — POST-PAINT INSPECTION
Document visible coating anomalies after the work.
DVI can analyse post-paint photographs to search for apparent imperfections within the agreed scope.
Findings can support the paint shop's quality checks before aircraft redelivery.
06 — PHOTOGRAPHIC MONITORING AND COMPARISON
Compare images acquired at different times.
Where several photographic sessions are available, DVI can assess their comparability and offer an assessment to document apparent differences.
This analysis across multiple sessions is a separate service, defined and quoted according to the requested scope.
TWO ASSESSMENT LEVELS TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS
TARGETED TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT
Analysis focused on a clearly defined anomaly category.
This service is for clients seeking an assessment against a limited technical objective determined before analysis begins.
It focuses DVI experts' work on the findings sought, without routinely extending the review to multiple damage categories.
COMPREHENSIVE TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT
Analysis covering several finding categories on photographed surfaces.
This service examines a broader scope and several categories of visible anomaly.
It is particularly suited to Pre-Purchase Inspections (PPI) requiring general documentation of the aircraft's external condition.
HOW DOES A REMOTE ASSESSMENT WORK?
01 — Submitting your request
The client specifies the aircraft concerned, inspection context, findings to be sought and desired assessment level.
02 — Providing the data
Photographs and necessary information are sent to DVI through the agreed arrangements and channels.
Session references, details of the acquisition system and relevant technical documentation may be requested.
03 — Checking usability
DVI reviews data availability, coverage and quality to determine whether the requested scope can be addressed.
Additional photographs may be needed where coverage is insufficient or quality unsuitable.
04 — Technical analysis
DVI experts review usable photographs to identify, locate and document visible findings within the service scope.
05 — Preparing the report
Findings are structured in an appropriate technical report, which may include photographs, location references and descriptions of identified anomalies.
06 — Delivery to the client
The report and other agreed deliverables are sent to the client with any reservations or analysis limitations.
BENEFITS OF REMOTE ASSESSMENT
ACCESS TO EXPERTISE WITHOUT ROUTINE TRAVEL
Image capture can take place at the client's site while DVI performs technical analysis remotely.
These arrangements can reduce travel and facilitate access to specialist skills.
OPERATIONAL FLEXIBILITY
The client can organise acquisition around its own maintenance constraints, under the agreed technical and operational conditions.
Analysis then begins according to data availability and service arrangements.
ACCESS TO SPECIALIST AVIATION EXPERTISE
Data are examined by professionals with knowledge of aircraft structures and visible anomalies that may affect external surfaces.
STRUCTURED TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION
Findings are located and documented to facilitate use by technical teams.
A SERVICE TAILORED TO YOUR SCOPE
The client chooses a targeted or comprehensive assessment according to objectives defined beforehand.
OPERATIONAL CONTINUITY
For organisations regularly capturing images, remote assessment separates drone system availability from that of the experts performing the analysis.
A SOLUTION COMPLEMENTING ON-SITE DRONE DEPLOYMENT
Have the technology at your site and call on DVI expertise as needed.
For maintenance organisations and operators wishing to perform regular inspections, DVI also offers on-site drone system deployment.
Once the system is deployed and agreed operating conditions are in place, authorised teams can capture photographs of their aircraft.
The data can then be sent to DVI for Remote Technical Assessment and associated reports.
These arrangements give the client on-site acquisition capability while retaining access to DVI's specialist analytical skills.

SUPPORT TAILORED TO URGENT AOG SITUATIONS
Is your aircraft grounded and do you need technical analysis of data already available?
DVI can consider priority handling in an Aircraft on Ground (AOG) situation.
Where photographs are accessible and usable, remote assessment can be considered without waiting for an acquisition team to travel.
Support options and turnaround times depend on the context, supplied data and available resources.
DVI findings can support maintenance teams' investigations without replacing the checks required for release to service.
DATA CONFIDENTIALITY AND TRACEABILITY
Aircraft photographs and associated information may be technically or commercially sensitive.
DVI agrees data transfer, access and delivery arrangements with its clients for each service.
These arrangements aim to preserve confidentiality of the information supplied and ensure documentary traceability suited to the agreed requirements.
ASSESSMENT COMPLEMENTING MAINTENANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Photographic analysis supports technical investigations without replacing regulatory checks and decisions.
DVI reports document visible findings on surfaces actually covered by image capture and within the agreed assessment scope.
They cannot always establish the cause, depth, actual extent or structural acceptability of damage.
Detailed inspections, measurements, non-destructive testing and other prescribed checks remain the responsibility of competent personnel and organisations.
DVI reports do not, by themselves, constitute approval for release to service or airworthiness certification.
