TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION FOR INSURANCE CLAIMS AND DISPUTES
Document visible damage to your aircraft with automated drone inspection and independent aviation technical expertise.
Damage found on an aircraft may raise questions about its cause, apparent extent or the circumstances in which it occurred.
Whether a ground incident, deterioration discovered during maintenance or a dispute between parties, detailed photographic documentation provides useful information for examining the situation.
Drone Visual Inspection (DVI) supports aviation professionals in compiling visual and technical records through automated drone photographic acquisition technology combined with specialist aircraft structures expertise.
Our aim: to identify, locate and document visible anomalies to provide usable technical information for insurance claims, discussions between parties and further investigations.
WHY CARRY OUT AN INSPECTION TO DOCUMENT DAMAGE?
Obtain precise photographic findings to understand and document the situation better.
Where an aircraft shows deterioration, the parties concerned may need visual information to characterise its apparent condition on a given date.
Automated drone inspection collects high-resolution photographs of accessible external surfaces, particularly elevated areas or those difficult to observe from the ground.
DVI experts can then review the images to locate visible anomalies, describe their apparent characteristics and prepare a technical report suited to the agreed scope.
Operators, maintenance organisations, appointed experts and insurers can use this documentation in their own investigations.
WHEN IS THIS SERVICE USEFUL?
01 — DAMAGE DURING GROUND OPERATIONS
Document the aircraft's condition after an event involving its operating environment.
Handling, parking, towing or ground support operations may cause accidental damage.
DVI can provide photographic documentation of the areas concerned and identify visible anomalies.
Findings may include dents, impacts, scratches or localised deterioration of external surfaces.
02 — DAMAGE DISCOVERED DURING MAINTENANCE
Retain technical documentation of anomalies found during maintenance work.
Where deterioration is discovered during maintenance, photographic acquisition can help document the apparent condition of the area concerned.
Images and technical reports can facilitate discussions between the maintenance organisation, operator and other parties.
This service can also form part of documentation before and after maintenance.
03 — DAMAGE AND INSURANCE CLAIMS
Provide photographic information to support review of a claim.
Following an incident, insurers and appointed experts may need additional visual information about apparent damage.
DVI offers photographic acquisition and technical analysis to document findings on accessible surfaces.
Reports can be sent to authorised parties to support their investigations under agreed confidentiality arrangements.
04 — DISPUTES BETWEEN PARTIES
Obtain structured photographic documentation to facilitate technical discussions.
A dispute may arise between an operator, service provider, maintenance organisation or another party regarding an aircraft's external condition.
DVI can be engaged to document visible anomalies and compile a photographic file describing the findings.
This documentation provides technical support for discussions without prejudging the cause of damage or any liability.
05 — COMPARISON BEFORE AND AFTER AN EVENT
Compare several photographic condition records where available and comparable.
Where earlier surveys exist, DVI can assess the possibility of comparing them with more recent photographs.
This analysis can document apparent differences between two aircraft condition records.
A comparative assessment requires a specific scope and sufficiently usable data.
It cannot always establish when or under what circumstances damage occurred.
WHAT DAMAGE CAN BE DOCUMENTED?
Depending on system capabilities, photographic quality and accessible surfaces, findings may include:
-
Dents and deformation: visible anomalies in external surface geometry.
-
Impacts and localised deterioration: apparent marks that may result from contact or a particular event.
-
Scratches and scuffs: visible changes to paint or coatings.
-
Paint deterioration: chips, flaking or other visual defects.
-
Visible corrosion indications: blistering, surface changes or apparent manifestations requiring further checks.
-
Lightning strike indications: visible marks that may be associated with a lightning strike.
-
Other specific findings: according to the technical scope defined with the client.
The exact nature, cause and actual extent of damage may require measurements, detailed inspections or further investigations.
HOW DOES THE SERVICE WORK?
01 — Receiving the request
The client specifies the aircraft concerned, event context, areas to document and inspection objectives.
02 — Defining the scope
DVI agrees the acquisition areas, finding categories to be sought and expected level of reporting with the requester.
03 — Photographic acquisition
Where new images are needed, DVI assesses and organises a drone operation to document accessible surfaces under applicable operating conditions.
04 — Technical analysis
DVI experts review usable photographs to search for, identify and locate visible anomalies within the agreed scope.
05 — Compiling the records
Findings are organised in technical documentation that may include photographs, location references, descriptions and information needed to understand the items examined.
06 — Delivery
The client receives the specified deliverables with documented findings and any analysis limitations.
Data can be made available to authorised parties under agreed transfer and confidentiality arrangements.
BENEFITS FOR AVIATION PROFESSIONALS
DETAILED PHOTOGRAPHIC DOCUMENTATION
High-resolution acquisition retains images of surfaces actually inspected and visible anomalies identified.
LOCATING FINDINGS
Apparent damage can be associated with identified aircraft areas to facilitate examination by technical teams and appointed experts.
ACCESS TO ELEVATED AREAS
The drone system facilitates documentation of certain external surfaces that are difficult to access, particularly the upper fuselage, vertical stabiliser and tail surfaces.
DOCUMENTARY TRACEABILITY
Photographs and reports retain a record of inspection findings under the agreed document management arrangements.
FACILITATING TECHNICAL DISCUSSIONS
Structured presentation of findings gives the various parties common documentation for examining the areas concerned.
REMOTE TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT
Where photographs are already available, DVI can assess remote analysis, subject to their quality, coverage and usability.
SEVERAL SERVICE OPTIONS
Turnkey automated inspection
DVI attends the site with its drone system to capture photographs and provide the specified deliverables.
Targeted Remote Technical Assessment
Analysis of existing photographs covering a damage category or precisely defined scope.
Comprehensive technical assessment
Examination of several categories of visible findings according to covered areas and the agreed scope.
Comparative assessment
Comparison of several photographic sessions to document apparent differences between two aircraft condition records.
This specific service is subject to a tailored assessment and quotation.
Urgent AOG support
Where an aircraft is grounded, DVI can consider priority on-site support or remote analysis according to available resources, supplied data and operational constraints.
INDEPENDENT, OBJECTIVE TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION
Our role is to document visible findings without prejudging their cause or any liability.
DVI reports are records of observations and technical analysis produced within the limits of usable images and the agreed scope.
They do not automatically constitute a court-appointed expert assessment, an insurance expert assessment conducted with participation of the opposing parties, a financial damage estimate or a determination of liability.
Photographs cannot always characterise the depth, cause or time of occurrence of damage.
Compliance assessments, repair decisions and approvals for release to service remain the responsibility of authorised persons and organisations, in accordance with applicable technical data.
Use of DVI documents in an insurance claim or dispute is a matter for the parties concerned and the rules applicable to their proceedings.
CONFIDENTIALITY AND DATA MANAGEMENT
Particular attention is paid to the confidentiality of information supplied.
Insurance claims and disputes may contain sensitive technical or commercial information.
DVI agrees photographic transfer, data access and report delivery arrangements with the client.
Supplied information is used within the agreed service, in accordance with contractual commitments and applicable confidentiality requirements.
